Part way through the interview Jon K explained using John Deere tractors. The Deere tractors transmission and rearend could handle the extra power. He said that he repowered I believe 1256 that local farmer that was diehard Red, but it trans and rearend couldn’t handle the repower. He also was ask why he didn’t repower other brands, said demand wasn’t high enough to manufacture parts for repower install.

This led to another question or two and one that might not be well liked by IH purists. What could be done to alleviate the rearend weakness in a 1256 and others and make them hold up to a repower? Is there a feasible way to install a wet clutch in the IH tractors of the 1960's and 70's?

I just think IH used outdated components too long. Shop staged full of them . This is from a long time IH guy
