Faunsdale, AL | Not enough grease being pumped into the zerk there on the electrical swivel.
Loosen the tension on the belt and see how much wear the bushings have in them. The washers are used to control the thrust/side to side movement of the large sheave which sets the air gap between the magnet and the armature plate it sucks over to engage the feeder house. There are also bushings/plain bearings that support the radial load applied by the belt. There is no relative rotation between the shaft and the sheave once the feederhouse is engaged, only when separator is engaged but feeder house is not. Later models have rolling element type bearings but the 9x00 Maximizer combines have plain bearings and must be kept well greased.
The same grease pumped in there also keeps the splines inside the hollow output shaft of the primary countershaft gearbox from wearing out.
Book says grease every 10 hours. Doesn’t say it in the book, but don’t skimp on grease!
