If your wanting a Duramax of that Vintage I would recommend a 06-07 model the engines are much better.
02-03 had injector issues. I had the oil pump fail on two 03 Duramax engines.
I have a 06 2500 4WD, bought new, done some injectors few years ago (think service mgr lied).
Turbo started whining and replaced couple years back.
Replaced filter head after it struggled to crank.
I was told by old diesel mechanic the 04-06 were best years built. After 06 GM started messing with tranny and did a poor job.
Mine has 270k+ and gets almost 20 mpg under 60, about 17-18 at highway speed.
I cruised the backroads last year heading to seed dealer in Duncan, MS and got almost 23mpg @45-50 mph.
Every body passed me!
