North shore of Lake Ontario | Same plan we use only we couldn’t get them planted in March. Our clover is a bit bigger than yours. We combine them with a Draper head so it will handle the green stiff. Neighbor buys them and makes double cleaned horse oats for his horse customers. We used to leave the clover till next year and make haylage for our dairy cows. Since we have sold the herd we just mow it with a JDHx20 rotary mower and let it rot down, The second cut produces clover seed which we sell.
Soil N test from several years ago showed +200 lbs per acre the next year . We can grow 100 bu wheat with only 40 lbs of added N.
Very very good for soil health. |
