Subject: RE: are old jeeps dependable

I had a 95 YJ with the 4 cyl and a 5 speed. It would go anywhere my son's lifted Toyota 4 Runner on 33's would go, and sometimes farther.

The Jeep had 251,000 miles on it when I sold it, as it needed an engine. It ran perfectly fine, used no oil, but was no longer able to run much faster than 65 mph and smelled terrible when doing it. The cylinders had little compression. Outside of that, it only needed maintenance items for a Jeep with that mileage. I did the water pump, distributer (cracked), springs (sagging), and changed all of the fluids. Previous owner had done the shocks.

Rust wasn't an issue because it was from out West. I bought it for $5500 and sold it for $4800. Not a bad toy for 5 years of fun!!
