C IL | I am acquainted with someone who works at one of the federally owned mortgage corporations. Various Congresscritters spend a lot of time telling these bankers, who already know better and have the data to prove it, how they are going to create programs to give mortgages to people who would never pass any reasonably stretched risk metrics that you and I would assess and enforce. It was only a few years ago that the plan was to charge creditworthy borrowers a higher rate to offset expected losses from less creditworthy borrowers to level the playing field. I never followed that proposal to see if it was implemented, though. |
