Oh I don't disagree. It wasn't as feasible back then as it is now either. That's much the point of subsidies is to help push an industry to get over that initial cost hump and develop better technologies to make it all feasible. Practically speaking I don't think it works as ideally as people would hope as in this case it's still a hard hill to climb to make the entire system a cheaper source of energy, but it's also fair to say price wasn't the primary driver of renewables.
Subsidies for wind and solar will NEVER be allowed to expire.
The technology needed to make them cost competitive is always just a couple years away. It’s been that way for several decades already. And it will be that way forever.
