and haul it. Never realized those old Deere planters were built so light that they can't take the extra weight of the semi-mount splitter resting on the front bar. I thought the old 5100 Whites were built really light but maybe they were heavier than the Deeres of the same time frame. Here's a picture of the old White with the mounted splitter. The only time we ever had any problem with breaking something was hitting a badger hole with a wheel while turning around about 5 minutes after filling the seed boxes. I wouldn't have recommend pulling it a long ways but with a semi-mount splitter I wouldn't have hesitated to pull it a 100 miles.
I suppose there isn't enough room on the White frame to just shuffle the rows around to make it into an 8x18? Having the rows centered so you can pull it straight is nice.
The 1st splitter planter we had came here as a 9x18 and we added some bar to the rear and made it into a 10x18 with the rows centered so that we could plant 5x36 at a time. Worked good. Before it left it went back to 9 rows on 20" to plant in 30" stalks. Good luck whatever you do.
