Subject: RE: tile plow

Soils and how dry or wet it is can make a big difference. I have a JD8770 weighted to about 40K with 46" radials. I think the 46" tall tires help a lot. I have pulled in 8" tile down to almost 5 ft without help after preripping when the soils were just right. I have also spun out trying to go 3.5 feet on 4" tile. I have gotten to preripping for the 8" using the 4" boot first and seeing how easy it pulls. If it pulls like butter on the 4" then I figure I am good to go on the 8. If I barely get through with the 4, then it is usually quicker to just hook on with a pull tractor.
