Grandview, TX | When we transplant tomatoes in the garden, we dig a hole deep enough to where only the top third to fourth of the plant is above ground. I think they hang on longer in dry weather being deeper rooted.
My son and I planted a couple acres of dryland watermelon transplants by hand for the first time in April. We planted some shallow and some deep to see if there’s a difference. I can’t tell a difference so far as we’ve had over 20” in the last month. My test may be skewed due to excess moisture. Keep us informed.
