Coles County, Illinois | The key to spraying Metribuzin or Valor is planting depth. Says so right in the label. I used to use 4oz Metribuzin tank mixed with Generic Prowl Incorporated then another 8 oz over the top but I planted 1.5" deep. I eventually got triazine resisitant Velvetleaf so I switched to Generic Prowl with Generic Pursuit incorporated. I then spray 3 oz Generic Valor over the top. Again planting 1.5" deep.
One needs to consider weed seed size when placing chemicals. Velvetleaf seed is fairly large so you need chemical deeper as the larger seed can emerge from deeper depths. Waterhemp seed is small so you need chemical near the surface to control it. Metribuzin is a asymmetrical triazine so it's absorbed thru the roots. If your roots are below the chemical then absorption is minimized. That not saying you can spray Metribuzin post. It has strong contact activity as well. | |
