Feeding wildlife leads to congregation in larger numbers than would otherwise occur. This leads to increased disease transmission and overloads other necessities such as cover and water. It also creates a dependency on whoever is feeding them.
EDIT I don't think it should be illegal, just think that it can be a bad idea.
