coast of Maine
Here a Tamarack is called a "Hackmatack" or "Hack".It is quite resistant to decay. It when sawn to smaller dimensions can twist a bit but as a 6x or such it makes excellent sill material. It can have knees much like a Cyprus tree in the south. It does grow in damp soils but not water logged.I used to get to cut it for free off any ones forest as there was no real market other than my farm use.
