He's not adding any bushels just changing his bulk density by having a more efficient pack factor.
Take a 5 gal bucket of 3" rock and a 1 gal bucket of sand. Weigh them separately. Take the sand and dump it in the bucket of rock. All you have done is increased the bulk density of the rock/ sand mixture by having a more efficient pack factor.
