northeast ohio | With our first XCN / TMX 2050 we added a port expander and then a AMAN BT so an iPhone or iPad could stream Ohio CORS or New Holland PLM RTK+ corrections. That worked OK but it always required an Apple product in the cab. The third year, we unlocked it and a second TMX for VRS Direct PN 96553-16. This requires a hotspot of a phone, tablet or puck device along with a compatible USB WiFi antenna ($20 - $80). Still using the CORS network. This has worked very good for us with a drop to xfill once in a while. This said, BIL had enough issues with the area he operates that he went back to a modem.
Note that this year both displays have experienced more frequent xfill and even “offline distance exceeded” errors when actually fixed on the line, but I attribute this to maybe overwhelming them with steering, rate/section, seed monitoring, vrs, autosync and tractor CAN data monitoring.
If your dealer is open to you trying the VRS Direct route, then ask them to request a 7 to 15 day demo unlock. I suggest this because another AgTalk member once suggested that there are a few TMX’s that apparently can not run VRS Direct. Be sure you have the WiFi antenna on hand if you don’t already use one with the display. Models which we and others successfully use are shown in the photos.
