We used to run a Graham drive on an fmx with no switch box, very glitchy but ran. Got different planter and went with PP setup. Few years later put Grahams on different planter, Graham tech support said gotta have 12 switch trimble box, amazingly better experience than running without box. So short version, run switch box with Graham drives.
