If you like cars, its well worth the trip just to ogle some things you'll likely never see anywhere else.
I usually get Gold passes and get there early enough that I'm down front. I think your bidder ticket allows you to get front section seats, but not positive. Other auctions are way more selective on seating and who gets to sit where I've been told.
If you are in fact interested in buying something, get there early enough to look at it very well. The time to inspect it isn't when the front tires hits the stage. Look through the website or catalogs before you get there, and write down the auction number. They park cars so they're easy to find once you get the system sorted out.
As mentioned, the opening ceremonies are great as well. Gets you in the spirit of things.
