Subject: RE: Cargill Open Front Hog Buildings

Iowa

Dad's roof, inside is only 4-5 ft. tall on the north end and probably only 6 1/2-7 ft. tall at the south (open) end. I don't think any cattle would ever go in his style. It was built by a company out of Eldora, IA. around 1970, I believe.

I do remember the concrete guys tried to take a short-cut on the way they poured the concrete "roof" above the manure pit. They were suppose to pour the cross-beams first, then pour the rest of the roof later.

Well, they decided to do it all in one shot, and didn't have enough support underneath, and I witnessed all 4 guys, concrete and plywood all drop 8 feet into the pit during the concrete pour. One second, they were screeding the concrete, next second, they were gone!
