Northern Indiana | I retired two years ago after 37 years total 25 as volunteer and 24 career. A lot has changed in that time. I still keep my certifications current. Rescue diver, confined space, high angle, inspector, instructor and a variety of other certifications. Absolutely loved the job. Some good brotherhood.
The reality is that most career departments run 75% or more medical calls. There just aren’t as many fires as there were years ago. Firemen are in demand. They are the ones you call when you don’t know who to call. When the red truck stops, you are expected to make it better.
I commend your son for his interest and involvement.
