I wonder what percent of viable seed that is planted , doesn't germinate. Example:

Bag of seed corn accurately tested 95% germination out of the seed bag at planting. Plant 40,000 per acre (for easy numbers only) so 38,000 viable seeds per acre. How many of the viable seeds don't germinate in field conditions (from poor seed placement, subacute seedling disease)

Seems like that would be a good test of planter equipment settings and seed treatments of how many viable seeds fail to germinate in the field.
