Not all produce is treated with chems a lot but if you sell semi loads to chains,,one worm or one slug in a 40,000 lb load it gets rejected.There is also the big chains controlling it all.Apples so cheap out of storage they are getting dumped,,price in the stores still sky high.They are making bank.
Local grocery had honeycrisp apples for 65 cents a pound. What with trucking and labor, there can't be a lot of "bank" left in that after retail overhead.
I wonder if they'd have made good dried apples. Didn't think about it until after I was back home. |
