There was a local family here that went through a very similar deal at about that same time frame. In their case the husband shot and killed both their daughter and infant grandchild. Took them 4 or 5 years to finally get to trial and convict the guy.
Tough tough deal. I'm certain the desire for revenge would be overwhelming.
