Holly Hill, SC | This is all I have ever used. Pretty happy with it. We subsoil in front of our planter so our soil is very soft and when things get sticky these openers may stop turning. Years ago (before Shoups added the notched opener) I started welding (4) 1/4" rods to the face of the outer disc opener. This helps keep them turning. If you go this route, be careful when running your fertilizer hose to the unit. Make sure it is fastened (loose zip tie) near the rear bottom parallel linkage bolt. This allows the hose to move with the front of the planter and then with the lower parallel arm up to the tool bar. Also I stopped rebuilding the inside scraper assembly. I get along fine without them.
