All the Grand Forks Air Fork base missile and Radar sites were built, 1965 to 1980, look up Nekoma ND where the Radar site was open one day because of a treaty with Russia. All 150 missile sites are closed today, In the 1980s, ND was the 3rd nuclear power in the world with 150 sites at Minot AF base that are still being used and the nuclear B52s in Minot. It was like your oil boom, Alot of jobs and a lot of Farmers kept the their farms alive to keep FHA happy to end up with job in town after the 1970s, life was not easy on the farm but every one grew up farming. In 1974-1976, I went to SSS in Wahpeton for diesel mech, students from ne ND told about going to these 300 by 300 foot high fence missile sites and throwing iron, brake drums over the fence, then going to others, then seating in the dark and watch the MPs, HPs and anyone else in law enforcment going from site to site.
