I know what you mean about the “innovators”. They think they know things that others don’t. The weather can make you look like the smartest guy in the neighborhood or the dumbest, it’s all a gamble. Millions are spent on planters that plant with perfect spacing but not a thought is given to how much stand might be lost due to planting too early and delayed emergence. That said, my young aggressive neighbor has looked pretty smart the past several years planting corn on the earliest possible date. I’ve never had much luck planting beans early, they start to mature before the late season rains and end up yielding less than the later beans. Apparently others have better luck.
