Jeffersonville, OH | Saw that on a QSX12 in a 405 Versatile, the SCR catalyst had plugged up with crusty DEF at the bottom of the inlet.
We took everything apart before that at one time or another, cleaned the DPF, changed the turbo valve actuator thinking it was going closed under load, etc. Thing sounded like it was under load all the time, and the exhaust sounded "off." We finally had enough, and realized that it didn't seem like it had enough exhaust coming out the top of the stack...on the Versatile, there's a pipe that comes off in about 2 minutes from the the DPF under hood out to the SCR/muffler on the fender, so popped that off, our noise went away, and our tractor had full power again with no codes.
Our fix probably wasn't Cummins or Versatile approved, but the tractor hasn't been back in the shop for 500 hours so far.
Took the pipe off the inlet to the SCR, and wedged a 32oz paint mixing cup in there, which was the perfect plug. Then I took the wand off the hot water pressure, cranked it to steam, and stuck it in the SCR outlet at the top of the stack. Once it filled to about halfway, we pulled the plug and flushed out the bottom. Did that twice, stuck the exhaust back on it fast, and put it on the dyno to cook the water out.
That was last spring, finished spring, ran fall, and another spring now without issue.
