We used to buy dressed chickens from a farmer who pedaled them around the area. These chickens dressed and frozen weighed about 9 pounds. Darn near turkeys but they were chickens. I thought I remembered them being leghorns but that could just be the conflation of childhood memories mixed with what he said. Do any of you know what kind of chickens would achieve that size? We were at a restaurant buffet once and one of the kids said they wanted one of those miniature chicken legs. The owner got upset thinking that the chicken legs he had were normal size I guess. We explained that nobody was making fun of his chicken nor his buffet, just that we were used to chickens that weighed probably more than twice as much as what he was used to seeing. |
