Macon, IL | I have been running since high school cross country, over 50 marathons. Many triathlons in youth-but those take too much time. Still run today-no joint pain. Maybe lucky genetics?
As I get old though I am less flexible and not as fast. I have moved to incline hiking on treadmill a lot-can still push cardio and it is less pounding on legs.
Its hard to get as good a workout on the bike and burn as many calories in the same time as running as its not weight bearing.
To OP you are not too old-I noticed a big drop in performance after age 40-but still can't imagine living without running. Stretching has become much more important in age, I wish I had stretched more in 20s and 30s.
