I have seen and heard on some new cars that 1 qt per 1000 miles is within factory spec. Family members subaru and jeep are both this way. They both trip low oil lights (only down a qt or 2 when light comes on) before an oil change if not careful. Good maintenance they just burn oil. Maybe it's the lighter oil they use now.
