nekfarmer - 5/2/2024 19:52 Lots of factory rubber closing wheels being used around here in a lot of different conditions. No-til, worked, flat, hilly, heavy bottom ground, and lighter hill ground. ... does it really make enough of a difference..?? Yes, closing wheels can make quite a difference in emergence and initial stand. There are several side by side tests done over the years. Beck's seed did one that seemed pretty thorough. The best way to answer your question in your conditions is to try one row and watch the emergence in that row. Many operators don't even stop to check their seed depth setting from field to field. They tell you they have so much ground to cover that they don't have the time to get out of the cab to dig some seed, check depth, closure and spacing. For those folks, no, changing closing wheels are probably not going to solve their planter or stand issues.
