Subject: 25 years ago - May 3, 1999 KS and OK Tornadoes

E. Kansas
For those who are interested in tornadoes, it was 25 years ago today for two extreme tornadoes, with an F4 and an F5 occurring in KS and OK. Haysville, KS, just south of Wichita had an F4, which came just shortly after the massive F5 hit Bridge Creek and Moore, OK, near OK City.

The F5 had the highest winds ever measured at near 301 miles/hour. That day had many indications of severe weather developing, but nothing probably believed to become so devastating as the terrifying monster F5 that roared to life early that evening. That storm motivated interest in considering various above-ground storm shelters, after seeing so many buildings completely gone with only the concrete pad remaining.

In constrast, today is a beautiful spring day, and thankfully nothing of the nature of those 2 storms is in the forecast.
