Subject: RE: Tornado damage to tractor

Kingston,Mi
Tornados can land equipment in some strange places, my area had several bad (at least for Michigan like the tornado that hit the Coldwater Rd. in Flint area in the early fifties). One of these tornados cleared out a small feedlot and dropped the cattle in the shipping lane in Lake Huron.

Uncle was into coon hunting at that time and on a hunt they shined their flashlights up a gigantic Elm tree to find to their amazement a small camper trailer lodged in the limbs 40 or so feet off of the ground.

Our place was on the edge of a tornado path, winds blew out all the windows in the house and filled the upstairs bedrooms with leaves stripped from the trees. We were eating supper when it started to blow and Dad ordered us to the basement when he saw the neighbors haylage chop boxes cartwheeling across the barnyard across from the house. Grandparents lived in a trailer in the yard and they started for our house, when Grandma cleared the edge of the trailer and got directly into the wind, she never took another step as she was pushed across the 100 foot distance by the wind and grabbed the porch post as she went by.
