Another con not mentioned yet is seed cost, you have to bump the rate to get same population due to seed damage from the drill.

That's funny. How does the drill damage the seed?

We've been drilling 140-160000 seeds per acre for close to 20 years now with an 1890CCS and last few years added the 1690CCS 15 inch drill for a second machine for beans.

We love the CCS drills over the planter. Got rid of the 1790 as it sucks compared to the drill.

Go faster with the drill. Turn around faster as the gangs come up quicker than a planter raising. Floats over ditches better than a planter as the framework and front dolly wheels cross over then carry the weight as the rest of the drill crosses the ditch. Can round corners faster on first pass around the field. Can notill drill into anything - like mentioned: a gravel road or concrete! Can adjust the hydraulic down pressure relatively easily.

Once you get the rate close it's not hard to make small adjustments as the seed size changes. We usually put one box in at the start of the season and adjust from there. But we have lots of experience so have a pretty good idea where to start at.

Love the single disk opener so virtually no plugging in almost all conditions. Can be drilling when it's almost to wet to be drilling. But in the springs when it rains every other day (like 2015 if I remember correctly) we can get over the ground with the drill when the planter is parked. That can be a pro and a con!

The 1890 CCS drill was a game changer for us almost 20 years ago and we are still using them. Absolutely love them.
