Here when that happens I just nuke all emerged weeds with glufosinate or dicamba, throw in the appropriate grass killer (clethodim or glyphosate), and spray Anthem Maxx (or Zidua of choice).  The dicamba sticks around for a couple of weeks if it stays dry and then it rains enough to activate the Zidua.  But it rains enough here to get Zidua activated, not sure for your climate.
