I got started with a 20 amp 3 pole setup a long time ago. Sweep auger, table saw, metal saw, drill presses. Pick a series, maybe 30 amps and go with it. L6-30 maybe. Those are popular with generators, so lots around. Worlds of price difference around. Some things are supposed to have both neutral and ground. Not plain single phase motors.
