If you have RTK or similar I've seen people plant 2 rows between each corn row. 

If not, angle is best usually. I've seen the 1990 and now N500's go through a lot of standing stalks without much issue. Super loose sand maybe you'll get some stalks to pull out and start pushing but doing either of the 2 theories above should stop that in those few spots
