If you intentionally baled Johnson grass here, you would be the pariah of the area.
It IS officially on the Ohio Noxious Weed list for a reason....rhizomes are almost impossible to get rid of, and before Roundup, J grass caused more yield loss in this area than any other single factor most years. A few seeds from a flood carries it downstream. Wildlife and birds spread it. Once you have it, it changes you cost structure and cropping practices forever.
It is bad enough threat that those who don't have it will spend almost any amount of time and effort hand-pulling the seed heads from the first clumps they find to prevent it getting a foothold on the farm.
Yes, glyphosate has been a Godsend for controlling it. That doesn't make it any less of a financial and agronomic threat.
