If you don't already have them, I would recommend investing in good binoculars over a cheap department-store telescope to start with.   They will give you a greatly enhanced view of the moon, some of the more interesting galaxies, and let you see a few things like the moons of Jupiter, and they're easy.    Gauge you level of interest and if you want to move up from there.
