I used plain white paper instead of aluminum foil. I poked a hole with the end of a ball point pen.
This will be eclipse#3 for me. First time, maybe 50 or more years ago during an eclipse I was in a building that had some small holes in the roof. Every spot where the sun coming through a hole in the roof hit the floor had a half moon shape.
