I got super lucky. The draft ended six months before I turned 18. I still had to register, but no number.
You still have to register today, unless you want to be disqualified for a lot of government things and programs.
Please note: Men born from March 29, 1957 - December 31, 1959 were not required to register with Selective Service because the registration program was suspended when they would have reached age 18.
I fell into this category. Born in 1958. I don't think registering for the draft started again until 1980, and that was for 18 year olds.
