| SMALLEST BEEF COW HERD IN 75 YEARS. Pretty much says it all. No one is going to wave a magic wand and create more feeder cattle (out side of the USDA.) Last time I looked it takes more heifers than normal to increase cow numbers and that means even smaller feeder supplies in the near term. And there isn't much indication that there are a whole lot more heifers being held back. Even with high calf prices there were a lot of bred heifers sold last fall that might of been more profitable if they had sold for feeders, all costs figured. | |
