looks like they currently get 3 to 5 steps, depending on who the player is and the team involved. They are also allowed to move their pivot foot
up to 3 times, if 8 seconds in the lane has not been called. Palming the ball, that used to be called a lot back when I played, can also get you an
additional 4 to 6 steps under the correct circumstances. Sometimes double dribble is allowed if they cant find an open man on the court. Last nite

Back in the day, until the opposing team had possession of the ball, it was considered YOUR possession and would have been called over and back.
I cant follow all the rule changes, dont even know why they make it so it's 'sloppy ball' to watch. As for Jordan, I dont agree with ya on his traveling,
