I wouldn't even think of using motor oil in my chainsaw because it will cost you more in the long run. Even running the wrong grade chainbar oil will cause problems(example thin winter grade during the summer months). You will be cursing when chain gets too hot and stretches all the time and chain gets dull real quick as well as having to buy a new chain and bar. Also, you are also going to have to change the bearing on the saw if you do this. I don't know how much wood you cut but I can easily cut 30 cords of wood with less then 2 gallons of chainbar oil and might only have to sharpen the chain once during that span.
