Latimer, Iowa (north central) | We have a Tebbe HS 240 that we use for spreading litter and cattle manure. It is a machine designed for commercial high volume spreading and has a price tag to match. Does an awesome job spreading from 1 ton an acre to 8 ton. Never tried higher or lower with it. I would compare it to a German car. Very nice when all operating correctly but also not a simple machine. Also has a high load height, needs a roll off or telescopic boom wheel loader to fill. If we added another spreader it would be another Tebbe but we do large amounts of manure.
Artsway mfg, that have made high quality grinder mixers and spreaders for years, is local to us and they are developing a litter spreader. Based on their standard spreader but with a litter/spinner attachment for the back instead of standard beaters. They recently brought out a X 900 to work some kinks out, I believe the first litter one they gave built. Spreader is well built and simple. The spinners are very heavily constructed. Could be loaded with a skidloader if needed. The demo one didn’t have a rate controller, I would consider that a must for litter. They need to work on the deflector design a bit and figure out a way to get the rear end a bit higher off the ground. Spread nice. All in all it’s a very nice spreader that with a few tweaks that they are working on will be a great spreader for more farmer volume (less then 10,000 tons a year) where an expensive Tebbe is not worth it. I am guessing the price point will be 2/3-3/4 of a Tebbe but is a smaller capacity then our 240 as well. I wouldn’t be afraid of an Artsway and maybe they would have a good deal on a demo model right now. :-). Been a solid company over the years.
