NCFL | 2024 has kicked off. We started planting peanuts today even though it was cool this morning, at least for us, 36. Soil temps have been running in the upper sixties to low seventies. Here's a few pictures of our start.
First picture is our 856 pulling an old New Holland 185 spreading hay residue left by the cow man. He grazes mostly pairs here over the winter on oats or rye. Next picture is same rig spreading accumulated composted hay and manure from the cowpens that we've been collecting over the past several years.
Next picture is my brother applying Telone soil fumigant for nematodes. Those coulters are 30" diameter with knives running 12" deep. In that field we terminated the oats ahead of the application with powermax.
Next picture is a field we sprayed behind Telone. Cows were pulled out that morning and we started both applications the same day, but I waited until air temp got up to 60 before starting the sprayer.
Last pictures are the planter getting started up. It's a pair of 1720 stack-fold planters teamed together to make 30" twin rows. I pull it with our Steiger 350. On the flats it hums along at 50% power, but on some of our big hills the power meter will go to 100%.
Edit. I'll have to get to my laptop to reorder the pictures. My phone wouldn't let me.
