I have one. Used it mainly to till up some sod before we planted trees and bushes, and mixing in some manure or compost. Also use it at once or twice a year over the whole garden.
When I bought mine, I assumed it was made cheap. But I use it so little and I am careful with it, I was willing to accept that. It still made more sense than renting one.
I don't think it would work well for what you're describing, especially if it's a large area.... it will level it out but any amount of sod or chunks of sod and it is a SLOW process.
One downside of these is also the hydraulic motor sticking out the side. It limits how deep you can till.
