Sunburst Montana | Dennis SEND - 3/10/2024 22:52 My FIL inherited a JD "D" tractor from his brothers estate, he to old to do much with it so had me come get it, he would kinda like to get it restored but afraid it may be cost prohibitive to do so, lucky the motor is not locked up as you can turn the flywheel over by hand Anyways also trying to figure out what year model it is serial number tag that is on the back is. 181760 I'm not having much luck figuring out what year it is supposed to be but said if i post on ag talk someone will have a book so don't let me down John Deere collectors. Nice D. I have 5 of them myself. What is your definition of "cost prohibitive". It doesn't take much to get a D running. They were built with loose tolerances and they are a low compression engine to begin with. Unless it has a million hours on it or has been abused, the rear end should be fine. I bet a carb and mag rebuild and it will run. My source says it's a 49' but there isn't any difference between a 48 and 49.
