Pittsburg, Kansas | I can remember in my lifetime, some years ago, that one popular idea was to eat several small meals a day instead of the family standard of three meals. The idea was to keep blood sugar levels more level. Or at least that was one of the ideas it was supposed to be a good idea.
Back when I was a small child I would be hungry and mom would say, "don't eat that it will spoil your dinner". I was supposed to wait till meal time to eat.
By my mid life that advice had given way to the idea that snacking was good. No problem having a little snack between meals. In fact it was advantageous.
My mom was right. The many meals or eating many times a day is not good dietary advice.
Insulin researcher Ben Bikman tells why. He gives numbers for fasting insulin levels.
