Subject: Hydraulic fluid and sampling for changing.

East Central Arkansas

It's been a while since I drained and replaced the hydraulic and trans fluid on my 4840 and 4760. I am planning on pulling some oil samples and getting them checked to see what they say before I make a decision on changing it. Do any of you use the oil samples on hydraulic fluid. If so how do you go about pulling your sample. I would think you would need to run the tractor and let the oil be warmed up good. Use some sort of small tube down the dipstick hole and some sort of suction pump.

I have been sending my oil samples to the MFA Lab mainly because I use their engine oil and hydraulic fluid. They did tell me on the hydraulic fluid I needed to fill two sample bottles instead of just one.

I do change my trans and hyd filters every year and it allways seems I end up adding a good bit through the year for one reason or another. It sure doesn't take long to dump 5 gallon if you bust a hose on a implement.
