Harder on fuel than a six but still reasonably economical compared to their counterparts at that time. The governors are the only thing we have trouble getting in parts and we do rebuild pumps and engines. The governors on the tractors are different than the ones on the tractors, parts may be more available. Our last two governors we had built by a precision machinist. Not cheap.

These engines are not a long lived as the 6 cylinders. The most we have ever got out of one is 7000 hours. It is not a cheap rebuild but not ridiculous either. If you can get by with out a crank you can do one out the door and installed for around 7500. A crank and it is just what it takes to get one.

I would not be scared of one but they are not the 6 cylinder. Keep them cool and a good water pump on them and they will run good.
